Pop music’s on the slide
It takes you on a ride
Feel it when your

Excitement starts to drop
And you wanna hit that ‘stop’

Why do we constantly bemoan that music is dead? More specifically, why are we calling out pop music most of all? Did popular culture kill it? Or doesn’t pop music fuel pop culture? These are the many questions I’ve not only asked, but heard, over the past five years or so.

As a pop music expert, I originally wanted to write a dissertation on popular music’s credibility and develop it into a post-secondary course. But that was when I believed I could take my passion and turn it into a career, so now I’m focused on turning the brand into a blog and accompanying podcast (once I have the time—who does these days?). Subjects I’ll discuss include women in pop & their responsibility to ‘save it,’ stan culture’s cause and effect on music, and how artists get away with ‘borrowing’ melody and lyrics.

I’ve been obsessed with music and all of its inner workings (MuchMusic constantly on repeat, experience on embarrassing music fandoms, etc etc) for over 20 years, and have contributed to publications as a live music reviewer. I’ve also interviewed a handful of artists for Metrolyrics.com. Select work:

Beck Live

Elvis Perkins

Mikky Ekko

Charles Cave

The Stills Live
